Sun protection is a must - but which one?
Actually, sun protection is an important topic throughout the whole year. Because when the sun shines, your skin needs protection - it doesn't matter if it's winter, summer, spring or autumn. However, the topic is of course much more present in summer.
Our sun protection has to be able to do a lot of things. To begin with, it has to ward off UVA and UVB rays and ideally also care for your skin. It should be as natural as possible (keyword "INCI list”) because nature should not suffer from your sun protection.
The question is, however, what kind of sun protection can rightly be called “natural cosmetics”?
Does natural sunscreen exist?
The search for natural sun protection that meets your expectations is not as easy as it should be - not to mention liquid plastic, silicones and other ingredients that are usually found in conventional products. UV filters are not an easy topic from a natural cosmetic point of view, as the different types of filters show...

Chemical filters absorb the radiation and convert it into heat energy. These filters are invisible on the skin. However, they lose their effectiveness after some time. That is why it is particularly important to reapply cream frequently and generously. Chemical filters are also suspected of having a hormonal effect. Therefore, they are especially not the product of choice for children and pregnant women. Additionally, these chemicals are very harmful to our waters.

Mineral filters - the choice of natural cosmetics

On the other hand, there are the mineral filters that natural sun cosmetics normally rely on. They form a mechanical protection from substances such as zinc oxide or titanium oxide, which deflect sun-rays from the skin like small mirrors. They provide reliable protection and are harmless to your health as they don’t imply nano-particles. From a natural cosmetic point of view, this is clearly our recommendation.
Only the look could dampen the joy. Mineral filters often leave a visible white film on the skin.

To actually counteract the “ghost” look, some manufacturers resort to mineral filters with nanoparticles. Here, the filter particles are so small that they leave no visible traces. However, it is still unclear how nanoparticles affect the body in the long term.
Can their size allow them to reach the bloodstream? How do they affect our DNA? All of this has hardly been researched yet.
But one thing is certain.
The natural cosmetics industry treats nanotechnology with caution.
How do you recognise whether nanoparticles are contained in your sunscreen? Easy - You can spot them indicated as "nano" next to individual ingredients in the INCI list. For sure you won’t find this in natural cosmetic products.

Coral-friendly sun protection
Many conventional sunscreens contain chemical compounds that dissolve in water and are hands down toxic to the marine ecosystem. Unfortunately, this also applies to many waterproof products with chemical filters. As some media reports say, waterproof protection is often limited in time (twice 20 minutes).
